Retraining the Mind: Finding Joy and the Divine without aid
What If the State Is Already Inside You?
There are moments when we touch something divine—an openness, a flow, a softness of perception—and often, we credit a substance for the access.
Whether it’s alcohol in a social setting, or plant medicine on a spiritual journey, many of us have linked our expansion to something external. And in some ways, this makes sense. These substances can open a door. They can give us a taste. But eventually, we have to ask:
What if the door was always there?
What if the state is already inside you—just waiting for your attention?
Training Joy Into the Bottle
Let’s say alcohol is your bridge to joy or confidence. You feel relaxed, funny, free when you drink. You start to associate those feelings with the drink itself.
But over time, you’re not just enjoying a glass of wine—you’re training your nervous system to think it needs wine to feel joy, or safety, or ease.
Your body learns: “We only relax after this.”
Your mind learns: “We only belong with this.”
And what if that’s not true?
What if you’ve simply never had the chance to find those feelings without the drink?
The Spiritual Shortcut
It’s the same with the spiritual path.
Mushrooms, cannabis, ayahuasca—these substances can open perception, shift timelines, even bring glimpses of the divine. But if every sacred state is accessed only through a substance, we begin to outsource our connection.
We never get to find out what our body knows.
We never get to hear what our inner voice is trying to say.
We never give ourselves the chance to remember.
And that’s the tragedy—because many of these states are not locked away. They’re just waiting for us to approach them in a different way.
Let Yourself Try
This isn’t about judgment. It’s about sovereignty.
Try sitting in joy—without the glass.
Try entering the trance—without the smoke.
Try speaking to your guides—without the capsule.
Not because the other way is wrong.
But because you deserve to know what’s possible without the tether.
We’ve built entire identities around the need for something to “get us there.”
But what if you are the medicine?
Closing the Gap
There is nothing more potent than discovering that the state you’ve been chasing… was you.
There is nothing more liberating than realizing you’re not dependent on anything outside you to feel joy, awe, connection, peace, love, clarity, freedom.
You don’t have to cut yourself off overnight.
But you can begin to explore.
Because once you find the path without the crutch,
you no longer walk with fear.
You walk in truth.
And that is the highest vibration of all.
